The Seven Biggest Dating Trends Over the Year

Editor: Priyanka Saxena on Apr 12,2018

A number of things changed in the world of dating over the course of last year. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got engaged, Chris Pratt and Anna Faris broke up, Tinder banned tiger selfies, one in every six newlyweds were married to someone of a different ethnicity, and last but not the least, draking became a thing. There’s been a lot of changes, big and small, and it got us to think how the dating world has changed from previous years. Here are some of the biggest dating trends over the year:

More people are dating outside their age range

It has been found that people are now more likely to like, message or have a conversation with someone who is ten years younger or older than them than they were in previous years.

Nice guys finish first

Men who have included words such as polite, listener, thoughtful, community, giving, give back, or friendly in their dating profile receive up to 65% more messages as compared to the average. Moreover, if a man brands himself a knight in shining armor, then he could get up to 66% more messages.

There’s no longer a stigma against vegetarians or vegans

Earlier, messages that mentioned being a vegetarian got 100% less replies as compared to the average. However, now it is found that, introducing yourself as a vegetarian gets you 4% more replies. Being a vegan is a positive as well. People who mention vegan in their dating profile receive 61% more incoming messages than the average.

Having a higher education makes one more attractive

People having a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree are seen as more attractive while dating online. These people also get up to 16% more replies to their messages.

It’s now time to turn off the filters

Do you also think narrowing down your pool of people to non-smoking, college-educated athletes would help you seek what you are looking for faster? A study revealed that people who used filters while dating online sent out more messages but received 10% less replies than those who turned them off.

If you wait too long to reply to someone, you could end up dateless

When you are dating online, it is best to respond to someone’s message within the day, else the chances are the person will move on. Replying to messages within the same day results in a 61% response rate, but waiting for two days to reply leads to drop in rate to 44%.
